形態特徵

• cinnamon or ferrugineous patent hairs; terminal buds ovoid to narrowly ovoid, with a few scales, villose, apex acuminate, and slightly curved.
• Leaves coriaceous, narrowly ovoid to lanceolate, 1–4(–5) cm long, 0.8–1.5 cm wide, apex acute to acuminate, with apiculate tip, base cuneate to rounded, margin slightly recurved, shallowly crenate-dentate with teeth, teeth 2–4 mm apart, shiny on upper surface, young leaves setose, in young leaves but later caducous glabrescent except the on midrib or glabrescent, dull on lower surface, setose, midrib impressed or flat on upper surface, prominent on lower surface, setose on both surfaces, nerves 4–8 pairs; petioles patently hairy, 1–3 mm long.
• Inflorescences axillary, a condensed spikes or short-pedicelled racemes, 5–10-flowered, to 1 cm long; pedicels to 1 mm long; bracts semiorbicular to widely ovate, keeled, 0.5–1 mm long, bracteoles 2, ovate, keeled, 0.5–1 mm long, apex obtuse or acute, adaxially glabrous, abaxially appressed hairy. Calyx tube glabrous, ca. 1 mm long, lobes imbricate, ovate, ca. 1 mm long, apex obtuse; corolla deeply 5-lobed, 3–3.5 mm long, lobes elliptic; stamens 15–25, pentadelphous; disc 5-glandular, pilose; style glabrous, swollen at the base, ca. 5 mm long, ovary 3-locular.
• Fruits dark violet, ovoid, ca. 5 mm high long excluding persistent calyx lobes, ca. 4 mm in diam.; mesocarp thin, seed 1, curved, with embryo curved embryo.
• Ying (1975) referred this species to S. propinqua Brand from the Philippines. The latter, however, has very small fruits according to the original description, but further study is needed to determine the identify of plants from the Philippine plants. Alt
